2. Supported Headsets & Installation Guidance

2.1 Compatible Meta Quest Devices

  • Meta Quest 3 (Primary benchmarked device — 72 Hz stereo rendering with Balanced and Quality presets)
  • Meta Quest 3S
  • Meta Quest 2
  • Meta Quest Pro
  • System Requirement: Meta Horizon OS (Android 10 / API level 29 or newer). Original Meta Quest 1 is not supported.

2.2 Installation & Ownership Verification Troubleshooting

  1. Ensure you are signed into your Meta Quest headset with the same Meta Horizon account that purchased Forest Drive.
  2. Open your headset’s App Library and install Forest Drive over a stable Wi-Fi connection.
  3. On first launch, keep Wi-Fi enabled briefly so the Meta Horizon Platform SDK can verify your application entitlement. Once verified, all three base maps (Autumn Forest, Forest Circuit, and Grand Scenic Route) can be played completely offline.
  4. If an entitlement check fails on launch, verify that your headset is connected to the internet, confirm that your Meta Horizon OS software is up to date, and restart the application.

3. Quest Touch Controller & Gamepad Guide

Forest Drive is playable out of the box using standard Meta Quest Touch controllers or a compatible Bluetooth/USB gamepad:

Driving Action Meta Quest Touch Controllers Gamepad (Xbox / DualSense)
Steer Left / Right Left Thumbstick (Horizontal) Left Thumbstick (Horizontal)
Accelerate (Throttle) Right Index Trigger (Analog 0–100%) Right Trigger (RT / R2)
Brake / Reverse Left Index Trigger (Analog 0–100%) Left Trigger (LT / L2)
Handbrake B Button (Right) or Y Button (Left) B / Circle Button
Pause / In-Game Menu Menu Button (Left Controller) Start / Options Button
UI Point & Select 6-DoF Controller Laser Ray + Index Trigger or A D-Pad / Left Stick + A / Cross

Troubleshooting Controller Input

  • Menu Laser Not Visible: Squeeze either Index Trigger or press A on your Quest Touch controller to wake the active pointer hand.
  • Vehicle Stuck Off-Road: Press the Left Controller Menu button to open the Pause Menu and select RECOVER VEHICLE (NEAREST ROAD) to place your SUV cleanly back onto the nearest road lane.
  • Steering Sensitivity / Handling Mode: Open INPUT / CONTROLS from the main menu or Pause Menu to inspect active input devices and handling assist settings.

4. Logitech G29 Steering Wheel Setup & Troubleshooting

Forest Drive includes a custom native Android USB HID driver (quest-controller.aar) for connecting a Logitech G29 Driving Force Racing Wheel, 3-pedal floor unit, and optional 6-speed Driving Force Shifter directly to a standalone Meta Quest headset.

4.1 Step-by-Step Connection Procedure

  1. Connect External 24V AC Wall Power: Plug the Logitech G29’s 24V AC power adapter into the bottom of the wheelbase and into a wall outlet. Note: The Quest’s USB-C port supplies 5V bus logic power only; without the 24V AC adapter, the wheel motors cannot perform their startup calibration spin or switch out of PS4 mode.
  2. Set the Console Mode Switch: Locate the small physical slide switch on top of the G29 wheel hub (just behind the RPM indicator LEDs) and set it to PS3 (recommended for immediate native enumeration as USB ID 046d:c24f) or PS4.
  3. Connect via USB-C OTG Adapter or Powered USB-C Hub: Plug the G29’s USB-A cable into a data-capable USB-A to USB-C OTG adapter or a powered USB-C PD hub connected to your Meta Quest headset’s USB-C port.
  4. Accept the Android USB Permission Prompt:
    • If switched to PS3 mode, Meta Horizon OS will display one USB permission dialog for G29 Driving Force Racing Wheel (046d:c24f). Tap OK.
    • If switched to PS4 mode (046d:c260), tap OK on the first USB prompt; Forest Drive will automatically send the native mode-switch command, the wheel will reconnect ~1 second later in native G29 mode (046d:c24f) and perform its left-right calibration spin, and you should tap OK on the second USB prompt.

4.2 Supported G29 Hardware Controls & Force Feedback

  • Steering Wheel: Full 900° lock-to-lock rotation polled at 500 Hz (2 ms).
  • Pedal Unit: Throttle (right pedal), Brake (center pedal, calibrated to the G29’s progressive rubber stop so full braking is reached naturally without excessive foot force), and Clutch (left pedal).
  • Paddles & Wheel Buttons: Up/Down steel shift paddles, D-Pad, face buttons (Cross, Square, Circle, Triangle), L2/R2/L3/R3, +/-, rotary dial, and Options (Pause Menu).
  • Driving Force Shifter: Gears 1–6, push-down Reverse, and Neutral.
  • Force Feedback & Centering: Hardware auto-centering spring plus surface-reactive constant-force pulses for asphalt road texture, 28 Hz off-road gravel/snow rumble, and guardrail/tree collision jolts (with an automatic 250 ms safety watchdog that stops force output whenever the game pauses or loses headset focus).

4.3 Troubleshooting Common G29 Issues

  • No USB Permission Prompt Appears: Verify that your USB-C adapter is a data-capable OTG adapter (not a charge-only cable) and that the G29’s 24V AC power brick is plugged into wall power. Unplug and replug the USB-C connector while Forest Drive is open.
  • Buttons Work, But Steering Axis Does Not Move: This happens if the wheel’s 24V AC power brick is unplugged or loose. Connect 24V wall power so the wheel completes its physical left-right calibration spin.

5. How to Recenter Your VR Viewpoint

To align the in-game SUV driver seat and steering wheel with your physical chair or racing rig:

  1. Sit comfortably in your driving position and look straight ahead toward your steering wheel or forward play space.
  2. Trigger VR recentering using any of these three methods:
    • During a Drive: Press the Left Touch controller Menu button (or G29 Options button) to open the Pause Menu and click RECENTER VR VIEW.
    • From the Main Startup Menu: Click INPUT / CONTROLS in the top bar and select RECENTER VR VIEW.
    • Meta System Shortcut: Press and hold the Meta button on your right Quest Touch controller for 1 second.

In-Game Pause Menu (Meta Quest 3 Capture): Provides instant access to live weather switching, Recover Vehicle (Nearest Road), Graphics & Audio Settings, and Recenter VR View.

6. Graphics Settings & Performance Troubleshooting

Forest Drive features an in-headset Graphics & Performance panel accessible from both the startup header and the in-game Pause Menu. All changes apply immediately in-place without reloading the map and are saved automatically to your headset.

  • Performance Preset: 50% render resolution scale, 1x MSAA, High Fixed Foveated Rendering (FFR) — recommended for maximum thermal headroom and Quest 2 stability.
  • Balanced (Default) Preset: Map-aware render resolution (65%–85%), 2x MSAA, High FFR — calibrated for smooth 72 Hz driving on Meta Quest 3.
  • Quality Preset: 80% render resolution, 4x MSAA, Volumetric Fog, High (1024px) planar mirrors, and Snapdragon GSR1 Spatial Upscaling.
  • Custom Preset (12 Individual Controls): Fine-tune Render Resolution (50%–100%), Foveated Rendering, Anti-Aliasing, Vegetation Quality, Shadows, Atmosphere (Analytical Haze vs. Volumetric Fog), Rain Effects, Mirror Quality (Off / Low / Medium / High), Upscaling (OpenXR Compositor vs. SGSR1 Spatial), Compact FPS counter, and Challenge HUD visibility.

Performance Tip: If you notice frame drops during heavy rain or dense foliage on older headsets, switch the Quality Preset to Balanced or Performance, set Mirror Quality to Low or Medium, and set Atmosphere to Analytical Haze.

7. Restoring DLC Purchases & Troubleshooting Downloads

Please remember that all three original worlds (Autumn Forest, Forest Circuit, and Grand Scenic Route) are permanently included in the base game and never require a DLC download or restoration. For optional add-on map expansions:

  1. How to Restore Purchased Maps: Open ADD-ON MAPS (DLC) in the top bar of the startup menu and click RESTORE PURCHASES in the top-right corner. Ensure Wi-Fi is connected and that you are logged into the Meta Horizon account that purchased the add-on.
  2. Freeing Headset Storage Without Losing Ownership: In the ADD-ON MAPS (DLC) modal, click REMOVE DOWNLOAD on any installed expansion map. Your store ownership and local challenge medals remain intact, and you can re-download the map anytime by clicking DOWNLOAD.
  3. Troubleshooting Interrupted Downloads: Each downloadable .dlc package is verified with SHA-256 checksums in a staging folder before activation. If a download fails due to low disk space or Wi-Fi interruption, verify that your headset has at least 1.5 GB of free storage, reconnect to Wi-Fi, and click DOWNLOAD again.

8. Data Deletion Requests

  • Immediate On-Device Deletion: All local challenge records, medals, graphics settings, audio levels, local DLC entitlement caches, and steering-wheel profiles are stored in Android app-specific storage on your headset. You can erase them immediately by opening Meta Quest Settings → Storage → Forest Drive and selecting Clear App Data or Uninstall.
  • Server-Side Deletion Request: To request deletion of your one-time installation log record (ForestRoadVR_InstallUserId) or support email history held by NahomPromotion, email support@nohtv.shop with the subject “Forest Drive Data Deletion Request”. We process and confirm all deletion requests within 30 days. Full details are available in our Privacy Policy.
